Hier finden Sie wichtige Hinweise zur Jobsuche, Bewerbung und Anerkennung von Abchlüssen in Frankfurt RheinMain.

Recognition of Qualifications

Have you studied abroad or completed vocational training and would now like to work in this profession in FrankfurtRheinMain (FRM)? Then you may need to have your qualifications recognised in Germany.

The recognition process determines which German qualification is equivalent to your qualifications from abroad. Having your qualifications recognised is a requirement for many jobs and for others it is recommended. More information on this is available on the website Recognition in Germany.

Statement of Comparability

A Statement of Comparability (Zeugnisbewertung) is an official document that confirms your higher education qualifications. It is not the same as having your qualifications recognised, but may facilitate access to the German labour market. Statements of Comparability are issued by the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB).

Regulated Professions

You may only work in certain professions in Germany if your qualification from abroad has been recognised by the government, for example as a doctor, nurse, teacher or engineer. These are the so-called “regulated professions”. The local authorities in your area are responsible for the process of having qualifications recognised. You will find information and advice on services for this process on anabin. It also depends whether you live in the states of Hessen, Rheinland-Pfalz or Bayern.

Non-regulated Professions

On the other hand, for the "non-regulated professions" such as mechatronics and IT, it is not a requirement that qualifications are officially recognised. Instead, it is down to your future employer to assess your qualifications. However, in some cases you can also opt to have your qualifications recognised. More information can be found on the website of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF), Recognition in Germany.

Fees

In some cases the procedure for having foreign qualifications recognised is straight forward, and in others less so. In any case it costs money. Please ask the relevant authority in advance how high the fees will be in your case.
