Find it in FRM: Further Education

In the FrankfurtRheinMain (FRM) region there are all kinds of further education courses for various target groups. The best one for you depends on what you would like to achieve. Would you like to take a specific career path after your traineeship, or enrich your knowledge through seminars and training courses, or do you need to do a further education course so that your qualifications from abroad will be recognised? Get advice. Below you will find information on some key advisory services and further education providers.

Advice

Weiterbildungsangebote in Frankfurt RheinMain | Find it in FRM

In FRM, there are many different institutions offering further education. Therefore it makes sense to get some advice in advance.

One of your main points of contact are the Chambers of Commerce, the Industrie- und Handelskammer (IHKs). The IHK offers advice themselves or will refer you to the right service. Find the relevant IHK for you here.

If you work in a trade, the local Chamber of Trade, Handwerkskammer (HWK), is your point of contact for further education. You can find the relevant Chamber of Trade here.

The Employment Agency, Agentur für Arbeit, is a good point of contact as well, and they also check whether it is possible to get financial support for further education. You can find your local Employment Agency here. You will find useful information in the brochure "Förderung der beruflichen Weiterbildung" (Support for Professional Development) from the Federal Employment Agency.

The Walter-Kolb-Stiftung e.V. in Frankfurt am Main and in Offenbach offers general advice on all matters relating to the topic of further education. This advisory service also has an office which you can visit without an appointment and free of charge.

If your qualification has only been partially recognized in Germany, IQ Network can provide you with advice. Here you will learn how you can improve your skills and what professional qualifications will help you further. Personal advice is available throughout the FRM region.

Providers

The best known providers of further education are the Adult Education Centres,Volkshochschulen (vhs). They offer a wide range of courses and you can also obtain qualifications or officially recognised certificates. Every big town and administrative district has an Adult Education Centre. This means that you can attend a further education course near where you live. Courses often take place in small groups. Since the Adult Education Centres are a public service, the costs are relatively low. However, you will normally have to cover the costs yourself.

You can also attend further education courses at universities and technical colleges. Here the focus is usually on the sciences. These classes are not only for graduates, but are open to everyone. More information is available on the websites of the universities and technical colleges.

In addition, there are many private providers of further education  and the choice is vast. If you choose a private provider, make sure to check whether the provider is officially recognised (certified). This is the only way to ensure that you are getting good quality further education.
