Find it in FRM: Further education offers

The FrankfurtRheinMain (FRM) region offers all types of training courses for various target groups. What’s suitable for you depends on your goals. Would you like to take a specific career path after your traineeship, expand your knowledge through seminars and training courses or do you require further education for your foreign qualifications to be recognised? Seek advice. We have listed a few key advisory services and further education providers here.

Advice

In FRM, there are many different institutions offering further education. Therefore getting some advice might make sense.

One of your main point of contact is the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK). The IHK offers advice themselves or will refer you to the right place. Find the IHK responsible for you here.

If you work in a trade, the local Chamber of Trades (HWK) is your point of contact for further training. You can find the responsible Chamber of Trades here.

The Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit) is also a good point of contact, especially as it will check whether financial support is available for further training courses you. Find your local Federal Employment Agency here. The brochure "Förderung der beruflichen Weiterbildung" (Promotion of Professional Training Courses) from the Federal Employment Agency also offers useful information.

The Walter-Kolb-Stiftung e.V. in Frankfurt am Main and in Offenbach offers general advice on the topic of further training. This advisory service also has open office hours. You can make use of it free of charge and without an appointment.

If your foreign degree or qualification has been only partially recognised, IQ Network would be happy to advise you. Here you will learn how you can improve your competencies and what professional qualifications will assist you in moving forward. Personal advice is available across the FRM region.

Providers

The best known providers of further education are the Adult Education Centres (Volkshochschulen). They offer a wide range of courses aimed to round out qualifications, as well as officially recognised certificates. Each administrative district and each larger city has an Adult Education Centre. This means that you can attend a further education course near where you live. Courses often takes place in small groups. Since the Adult Education Centres are a public service, the costs are relatively low. However in the most cases you have to cover the costs yourself.

You can also attend further education classes at universities and technical colleges. Here the focus is usually on sciences. These classes are not only for graduates, but instead are open to everyone. You can read up on the topics on offer the official websites of universities and technical colleges.

In addition, there are many private providers of further education – the variety is huge. If you choose a private provider, make sure to check whether the provider is officially recognised (certified). This is the only way you can ensure you are getting quality training.

Tip

You can find information on the topic of further education in your region, as well as an overview of further education advice services from Bildungsnetz Rhein-Main (Education network Rhein-Main).
