Art and culture

From classical music to pop, jazz to hip hop, rock to rap, there is always music in the air in FrankfurtRheinMain (FRM). The region caters to your every cultural need: art galleries, industrial design exhibitions, street art, ballet, opera, clubs – you name it, we have it. There is something for any age and any taste.

All major cities in the FrankfurtRheinMain region have at least one community theatre and one symphony orchestra. Some also have a ballet hall. Besides the major cultural institutions, there are countless other theatres, clubs and bars of all shapes and sizes. FRM is bursting with life – on more than 100 stages throughout the region.

The English Theatre in Frankfurt am Main is one of its most popular venues. It hosts expert productions of all genres – classics, comedies, thrillers, musicals and so on. Many of the shows come to Frankfurt from London and New York, and they are always well received by an enthusiastic, international crowd.

FRM offers many museums, with Frankfurt am Main being the undisputed museum capital of the region. More than 60 museums and exhibition spaces are spread across its urban area. The entire region has around 200. They include internationally renowned museums alongside small, local ones. Refer to the Kulturregion FrankfurtRheinMain website for a detailed overview of the museums and their permanent and temporary exhibitions. You can also download programme guides for a variety of topics.

Further highlights in FRM include:

The international theatre festival “Starke Stücke”, which has been producing plays for children and teenagers since 1994. Artists from all over the world flock to the stages of FrankfurtRheinMain to host workshops, discussions and other events to accompany the festival.

The Industrial Heritage Trail allows you to experience sites of Europe’s industrial heritage that are normally inaccessible. It leads you past harbours, industrial plants, bridges, rail stations, water treatment plants and technology parks. And this experience is not just for adults. The Industrial Heritage Trail Junior is designed for children and adolescents who want to learn about architecture, craftsmanship, production processes and upcycling in a stimulating and entertaining environment.
